Green Tea Frosted Cookies

Happy Halloween! (a few days late)

Halloween always entails a mad rush to find or make a costume.  This year was no different.
After jumping from condiments to 3 blind mice to hula girls, we settled on... smores!

Marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker!

As usual, my brain is a little mush and it's becoming difficult to form coherent sentences. So onto the cookies!

After making a batch of Green Tea Cupcakes to take to school, I had a bunch of frosting left over. Not wanting to waste such green tea yumminess, I decided to make some cookies!

I had Black & White cookies in mind and came up with something slightly similar... kind of. If you flipped them over. Maybe.

The cookies ended up being perfectly sweet and green tea-y with the frosting.

Recipe

Cookie
2 1/2 cup flour
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
3/4 cup sugar
 2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup milk

Preheat to 375.
Whisk flour, baking powder, cornstarch, and salt together.
In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar.
Add eggs in 1 at a time.
Add in the vanilla.
Finally add in part of the flour mix and milk, alternating.
Bake 10-12 minutes.

Frosting (I used leftover frosting, so I would halve this!)

1 stick unsalted butter
2 tbsp milk
1 tbsp Matcha green tea powder
2 cup powdered sugar

Cream butter and add green tea powder and milk.
Slowly add the powdered sugar.
Beat until fluffy.

Mindy Kaling's new book is out! It's called Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me and while I've only read the excerpts, it's absolutely hilarious! She also has a website that makes me laugh. Here are a few my of my favorite lines.

Best Friend Rights and Responsibilities

I CAN BORROW ALL YOUR CLOTHES
Anything in your closet, no matter how fancy, is co-owned by me, your best friend. I can borrow it for as long as I want. If I get something on it or lose it, I should make all good faith attempts to get it cleaned or buy you a new one, but I don’t need to do that, and you still have to love me.

WE SLEEP IN THE SAME BED
If we’re on a trip or if our boyfriends are away, and there’s a bed bigger than a twin, we’re partnering up. It is super weird for us to not share a bed. How else will we talk until we fall asleep?

I CAN DITCH YOU, WITHIN REASON
I can ditch you to hang out with a guy, but only if that possibility has been discussed and getting-ride-home practicalities have been worked out prior to the event. In return, I need to talk about you a lot with that guy so he knows how much I love you.

I WILL TAKE CARE OF YOUR KID IF YOU DIE
I can’t even write about this, it’s too sad. But yes, I will do that. And you will have one awesome little kid who hears endless stories about how amazing and beautiful and perfect you were. Incidentally, your kid will grow up loving Indian food.

I WILL HATE AND RE-LIKE PEOPLE FOR YOU
But don’t get mad if I can’t keep track. Robby? Don’t we hate him? No, we love him. Okay, okay. Sorry.

  1. [1] I really really really loved the Halloween costume you guys came up with. I don't know, something about homemade touches speaks to my inner Martha Stewart/kindergartener.
[2] Green tea cookies! Are these like the Valentine's Day cookies you made last year?
[3] Even though I've read Kaling's book, I still laughed out loud (okay, snorted) when I reread it on your blog.
